Once the Holiday season starts to roll around, nothing hits the spot like a simple cocktail. Especially like an Old Fashioned. It’s one of my favourite whiskey cocktails and a fun holiday twist on a classic cocktail. Since we are in prime maple syrup season, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to do a fun little twist on a classic whiskey cocktail. Instead of making this cocktail with simple syrup, I simply replaced it with some gorgeous dark amber maple syrup for a sweet note.

This cocktail is so cozy and is perfect for the winter months. This simple yet fancy cocktail and this slow sipper only requires a few simple ingredients.

If you are looking for some other Holiday cocktails, try these:

What you’ll need to make these Maple & Rosemary Whiskey Cocktails…

  • 3 oz of rye whiskey

  • 1 oz of pure maple syrup

  • 2 dashes of aromatic bitters, like angostura bitters

  • fresh rosemary sprigs

  • fresh orange peel or orange slice

  • ice cubes, or 1 large ice cube

Want to take this Maple Old Fashioned to the next level?

Elevate this simple cocktail by simply adding some of these extra garnishes or ingredients:

  • Walnut Bitters: swap out the bitters for flavoured bitters. They come in so many different flavors and using something like Walnut Bitter adds a totally different layer.
  • Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup: I love using real maple syrup as the natural sweetener for this cocktail since it gives a gorgeous subtle maple flavour and enhances the caramel notes of the whiskey, but you can swap it out a flavoured simple syrup, just like this Cinnamon Simple Syrup which is bursting with fall flavours with a hint of cinnamon. You can even make it festive by rimming your glass with cinnamon sugar. This can be done by adding a pinch of ground cinnamon to a small bowl of white sugar.
  • Orange Wheel: Replace the twist of orange peel with an orange wheel for an extra orange flavor.
  • Cinnamon Sticks: Garnish your cocktail with a cinnamon stick along with your sprig of rosemary.

Why you’ll love this simple whiskey cocktail…

It’s a really easy recipe and you don’t even need a cocktail shaker. Everything is made in a cocktail glass, rocks glass or old fashioned glass. This cocktail is garnished with a fresh orange peel and a fresh rosemary sprig for a gentle hint of rosemary aroma while you sip on this whiskey cocktail. I can’t wait to share a few more whiskey cocktail recipes that I have been working on…

How to make this easy whiskey cocktail recipe…

  1. Add the whiskey, bitters, and maple syrup into some rocks glasses.

  2. Add a large ice cube, the orange peel, and the rosemary garnish.
