How to Make Nutella Muffins

step 1

To make these muffins, start by preheating your oven to 425°F. Combine all of your dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl: whole wheat or all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Whisk to combine

step 2

in a separate bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, 2 eggs, milk and vanilla. Mix well with a hand mixer until well combined.

Note: you can also use dark brown sugar for an extra caramel flavour.

step 3

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients. Combine using a wooden spoon since we don’t want to overmix. Overmixing won’t give you fluffy muffins!

step 4

Line a muffin pan with paper liners. You can also use vegetable oil or a nonstick spray instead to ensure the baked muffins don’t stick to the muffin tin.

Using an ice cream scoop, cookie scoops or small measuring cup, fill the cupcake liners 3/4 full with the muffin batter.

Step 5

Add a teaspoon of Nutella on top of each muffin. Then using a toothpick or bamboo skewer, gently swirl the Nutella around to get it mixed into the top of the batter.

Note: you can swirl as much or as little as you want. The more your swirl, the deeper the Nutella will go into the muffin batter.

step 6

Bake for 5 minutes at 425, then reduce temperature to 350 and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of a muffin comes out clean.

step 7

Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before removing them from the baking sheet to a wire rack or cooling rack to cool completely.

How to store these Nutella Muffins

The best way to store these delicious Nutella Muffins is to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or place them in an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to 3-4 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

What’s the secret to light and fluffy Nutella muffins?

The secret to light and fluffy Nutella muffins lies in a few key techniques and ingredients.

First, it’s important to not overmix the batter. Overmixing can lead to tough and dense muffins. Mix the dry and wet ingredients just until they are combined, and be gentle when adding the Nutella swirls.

Using a combination of all-purpose flour and baking powder helps to give the muffins the lift they need to rise properly and create a fluffy texture. Adding a small amount of baking soda can also help the muffins to rise properly.

Another important tip is to use room-temperature ingredients. This helps the ingredients to blend together more easily and evenly, creating a better texture.

Always bake muffins at a higher temperature. Baking your muffins at a higher temperature, such as 400°F, will help to create a nice dome shape on top of the muffins and give them a slightly crispy exterior.

Finally, adding a bit of sour cream or yogurt to the batter can help to keep the muffins moist and tender. This is especially important when baking with whole wheat flour, which can sometimes result in drier baked goods.

By following these tips and using high-quality ingredients, you can create light and fluffy Nutella muffins that are sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

  1. What are the baking temperatures? You said to preheat to 425F – but then the recipe states bake at 475F for 5 minutes – then lower the temp. It’s a bit confusing at least to me. I want to try baking these muffins.
