It is full-on harvest season and it just happens to be one of my favourite times of the year. With so many beautiful fruits and vegetables wrapping up their peak season, one of my favourite ways to preserve the flavours for months to come is by canning.
The canning process has always seemed daunting to me, but thanks to Bernardin® I feel like a pro now. From their preserving starter kit (that has EVERYTHING you need to get yourself started) to their Home Preserving cookbook featuring 400 delicious and creative recipes, Bernardin has all the tools to give you the confidence to preserve your food.
Not only for canning and pickling, but these jars are perfect for decor, organization around the office or kitchen, DIY projects and drinkware.
Bernardin® jars and lids are BPA free and they come in various sizes – 250ML (ideal for jams, jellies, conserves, preserves, fruit syrups, chutneys, pizza sauce), 500 ML (ideal for salsas, sauces, relishes, pie filling) and 1L (ideal for fruit and vegetable slices, pickles, tomato-based juices & sauces)
Since pears are my favourite fruit of harvest season, I made some Pear Allspice Chutney using a simple step-by-step recipe from Bernardin.ca which is the perfect pairing with cheese for wine nights. Their website also features a “How to” guide to help you plan as well as a recipe section.
The recipe is also adaptable for using peaches, apples, or even a mix of all three. Step by step directions can be found here.
