Is there anything better than a fresh pie out of the oven? And what if you can enjoy freshly baked pie all winter long? Well, thanks to the new FoodSaver® VS2100, I can!

I picked up a massive bag of apples from the farmers market a few days ago since apple season is (unfortunately) wrapping up around here. Let me tell you, there is nothing better than baking with apples that are in season. Trust me, those apples that you will find at the supermarket in January are not the same.

How does FoodSaver® come in? Well the VS2100 Vacuum Sealing System provides powerful vacuum sealing technology and an absolute airtight seal that locks and preserves freshness and flavour for months at a time.

What the FoodSaver® VS2100 does is keep food fresh up to 5X longer* (compared to ordinary storage methods) and doesn’t spoil as fast in the freezer. FoodSaver bags were created to have multiple layers that are specifically constructed to block air and prevent freezer burn.

The FoodSaver® VS2100 seals and preserves food in two ways: vacuum seal bags for your freezer or use the handheld sealer to vacuum zipper bags or containers for your fridge and pantry (fresh up to 2X longer).

With this Vacuum Sealing System, I was able to make a big batch of apple pie filling and portion it out in airtight bags and keep it in the freezer.

Company coming over? Just pull out a package of pie filling and defrost. This also makes for a perfect hosting gift heading into the Holidays; just bring a package of pie filling and store-bought pie crusts so they can enjoy fresh apple pie whenever!

I made two beautiful pies with this recipe and the mix of spices was just perfect! The hint of Spiced Rum just added an extra depth of flavour that everyone was just obsessed with. I had a little extra filling and pie crust, so I made mini apple pies. I simply rolled out my dough and used the mouth of a glass to cut our circles. I placed the dough circles to the bottom of a muffin pan, topped with some apple filling and baked at 425F for 20 minutes.

This recipe is enough to make 2 pies. Double quantities to make more portions.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8 apples

  • 1 cup of brown sugar

  • 2 oz of Spiced Rum

  • 1/4 cup of apple juice (can substitute with water)

  • 1 tbsp of vanilla

  • 2 tbsp of corn starch

  • 2 tbsp of flour

  • 1 tsp of cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp of nutmeg

  • 1/4 of ground cloves

  • 1/4 tsp of salt

DIRECTIONS:

  • Dice the apples and add to a large mixing bowl.

  • Add in the remaining ingredients and mix well to combine all of the ingredients.

  • Transfer the apple mixture to the FoodSaver Bag. Vacuum seal in the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer according to appliance guidelines.

  • Refrigerate for up to 24 hours, or freeze.

When ready to use, thaw and add the contents of the bag into your pie crust and bake on a rimmed cookie sheet as per your crust instructions.
