Let me tell you something, this spice honey is a game changer. The main purpose of this was to make flavoured honey to use with charcuterie at home. Honey is often served with a variety of cheeses or cured meats. I decided to try and infuse the honey…just to add a little flavour. It’s turned out to be such a fantastic item to have on hand because now I have been adding it to salad dressings and in my meat marinades. It also elevates a baked brie, literally takes it to a whole new level. Simply pour some over the brie wheel after baking it in the oven until for about 12-15 minutes at 350°F.
You can always pour it into smaller jars and use them as little hostess gifts, which is what I am planning to do.
INGREDIENTS:
-
1 cup of honey
-
2 large sprigs of fresh mint
-
1 tbsp of red chilli flakes
DIRECTIONS:
-
Leave the mint sprigs whole since they will be easier to pull out. In a small pot, add your honey, fresh mint and chilli flakes.
-
Heat on low heat for about 20 minutes and stir occasionally. It is so important to make sure this never comes to a boil because your honey will burn.
-
After 20 min, remove from heat and pour into a jar and let cool for about 20 minutes. Since honey has a long shelf life, you can keep this in the refrigerator and use it within one year.
