What better way to use those last peaches of the season than making this Simple Peach Crisp. This easy recipe comes together in a few short minutes and smells so delicious while it is baking.

This recipe is in collaboration with President’s Choice® PC Plant-Based products. They now have over 80 products available for plant-curious Canadians. I opted for a lighter topping on my crisp and decided to add a beautiful dollop of the PC Plant-Based Cultured Oat Yogurt Alternative in the Yuzu Citrus Flavour.

Made with plant-based ingredients, the PC Plant-Based Cultured Oat Yogurt is made with a hydrolyzed oat base instead of milk and dairy ingredients.

This crisp recipe is a classic recipe that I have been using for YEARS. The best part is that you can easily switch out the peaches for any other fruit of your choice. The perfect example of that is this tropical twist I did on this Pineapple Crisp which you gotta try, you will be amazed.

What is the difference between a crisp and a crumble?

I’ve heard many people call this dessert differently depending on where they are from. But, there is an important difference…and it all comes down to the topping.

A crisp is baked fruit, topped with a crispy layer that contains a mix of the following ingredients: brown sugar, butter, oats, nuts, flour and a spice of some sort…like nutmeg or cinnamon.

A crumble is similarly baked fruit, but with a layer that contains flour, sugar and butter. There are no nuts or oats…so think of it more as a strudel topping.

What other fruits and you use in a crisp?

This recipe is so versatile that you could probably use any firm fruit or stone fruit. So think; cherries, pears, plums, mangos, obviously apples, apricots and so on.

You could even do a mix of a few. For example a mixed summer berry, or even peach and blueberry crisp.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 peaches, cut into wedges

  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp of cornstarch

  • 1/2 cup of cold butter, cut into chunks

  • 1/2 cup of flour

  • 1 cup of Instant Rolled Oats

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Add your sliced peaches to a baking dish, sprinkle with cornstarch and 1 tbsp of brown sugar. Mix until the starch is no longer visible.

  3. In a mixing bowl, add the remainder of the brown sugar, butter, oats, flour and mix until well combined. The easiest way to combine the ingredients is to get right in there with your hands.

  4. Crumble the topping over the peach mixture.

  5. Bake for 40-45 minutes until the top starts to turn golden.

Serve warm out of the oven or let cool to room temperature before serving.
