Yes yes, in the last few months we have become obsessed with our air fryer. Although I think some people still have misconceptions around air fryers and are not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

What does an air fryer do….?

While the idea of the air fryer was to be a healthier alternative to using a deep fryer, it goes way beyond that. An air fryer is similar to a smaller convection oven. It circulates hot heat that produces a crispy and browning effect on the foods cooked. Therefore, it looks like it has been deep dried except it only used a tiny amount of oil instead of being submerged fully in it.

What can you make in an air fryer?

Essentially anything that you would want to bake, you can put in the air fryer. The advantage is that it cooks a lot faster, and it seems to keep meat from drying out in the cooking process. Everything that I have made so far has been juicer and so much more tender. Some of my favourites to cook in the air fryer so far have been chicken breasts, asparagus, burgers, French fries… and even bacon.

Air Fryer Pita Chips

I’ve often made my pita chips in the oven, but after cooking them a few different times in the air fryer, I’m obsessed. So much faster than the oven method and even crispier. It’s so easy to throw together, and the best part of making your own pita chips is that you can season them however you wish.

This recipe is for a basic pita chip, but you can season them with one of the following seasonings or even a mix: garlic salt, dried basil, dried oregano, dried rosemary, truffle salt, freshly grated garlic, grated parmesan cheese, squeeze of lemon or lime juice, cinnamon & sugar…and so much more. Just look in your pantry and go to TOWN.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4-6 pita breads

  • 2 tbsp of olive oil

  • salt & pepper to taste

  • any other seasoning of your choice, to taste.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut up your pita bread into triangles, squares or whatever shape you want. I cut them all pretty randomly to get different shapes, but feel free to be more particular if you want.

  2. Add your cut pita into a large bowl, toss with the olive oil, salt, pepper and other seasonings if you choose. Mix well so that all pieces get coated with a little oil.

  3. Working in batches, add some of the pita pieces to the bottom of your air fryer basket (enough to cover the bottom, but don’t worry if they overlap a little).

  4. At 350 F, air fry for 3 minutes. Give the chips a quick shake and return to air fry for an additional 2 minutes.

After the first batch, adjust your cook time to your liking. Some prefer a chewy chip, reduce your cooking time by a minute. If you want a darker more crispy chip…increase your cook time slightly.
