Are you ready for another cocktail that is going to keep you refreshed this weekend? I don’t know about you, but we are having the craziest heatwave this week in Calgary. It’s unlike anything I have ever seen in my 7 years living here.
It’s so hot, and to be honest…I wouldn’t want it any other way. We waited so long for summer weather to arrive and I am not going to complain about it.
The Classic Mojito is my go-to summer cocktail. There is something about it that is so refreshing and just reminds me of being poolside or by the beach. Before COVID, I used to love going to Mexico on vacation and drinking Mojitos all day long and just recharging. There is something magical about them where I would never get a hangover…and my skin was glowing. I don’t know what it is guys, but I’m into it.
Well since I can’t go to Mexico right now (although I can’t wait to go back), I decided to do a little twist on one of my favourite cocktails. By simply adding some fresh oranges to it, it was a delicious new cocktail that I am obsessed with. It’s so perfect for this heatwave and I’ll be drinking them all weekend!
INGREDIENTS:
-
1/2 of a lime, cut in 4 wedges
-
1/2 of an orange, cut in 4 wedges
-
1 tsp of sugar
-
a handful of fresh mint
-
3 oz of white rum
-
1 cup of ice
DIRECTIONS:
-
In a cocktail shaker; add the orange, lime, sugar and mint. Muddle so that all the juices are released from the citrus.
-
Add the rum and ice. Shake vigorously.
-
Let sit and chill for at least 30 seconds.
-
Strain and serve. Garnish with fresh mint.
Cheers and happy weekend friends!
